“We Will Remember Them”

This Art installation was made by the children of Cranleigh to mark the 80th D Day Celebrations.

It hangs in the Memorial Gardens in Snoxhall and pays tribute to the courageous service of those who gave their all for our freedom.

The tags that hang are in the form of the evacuee tags that children wore and display a number and a child’s name.  Each child was either from Cranleigh Beavers, Rainbows or Squirrels group and they made an imprint of a soldier or a spitfire plane into the clay. As we made them we are able to talk about D day and what it was all about.

The poppies were beautifully made by Glebelands  students who attend Cranleigh Art Hub  on a Tuesday afternoon. They made both red and purple poppies to remember both soldiers and animals that lost their lives.

I hope that you are able to walk down to the Garden and spend a moment of your time looking at the work. Stop and reflect.

It is a great opportunity for families to talk about what happened, answer questions and to never forget the great sacrifices that were made.

WE HAVE REMEMBERED THEM
